Skyler Daum scores two in first game on the road
Washington Dutch Lions FC (3-0-0) faced Athena SC in their third game of the 2021 season and their first away game in club history. With a 0-2 win they earned three more points to maintain their perfect record so far.
The Lions came into this game prepared after facing Athena SC in their previous game. The team kept pressuring their opponent and created several opportunities. In the 17th minute of the game the Lions got a corner which was taken by #8 Dakota Chan. Chan played a perfect ball into the box which was headed in by #4 Skyler Daum who got her first goal of the season. Both teams had key moments in the first half but Daum’s goal was the only score of the first half.
Coming out of the break WDLFC built up quickly and Dakota Chan dribbled her way into the box and got fouled, earning the team’s first penalty kick of the season. Skyler Daum, who scored the first goal of the game stepped up to the spot ready to kick the penalty. Without hesitation Daum hit a powerful shot to the left side of the keeper getting her second goal of the game. After taking a 2-0 lead in the 46th minute the Lions showed their strength on defense. Their efforts on the defensive side also helped the team achieve their first clean sheet of the season.
With the 2-0 win the Lions keep their undefeated streak going. Now the Lions put their focus on their next matchup against CAFC Ospreys on June 19.
