Women’s team wins inaugural game 3-1

Dakota Chan scores two in first ever WDL FC game

The Washington Dutch Lions FC women's team won their opening game this Saturday vs SJEB with 3-1.

The Lions started strong and took the lead in the 4th minute after a give and go through the center of the pitch bringing Dakota Chan 1v1 with the goalkeeper. Chan stayed calm and put the ball next to the goalkeeper giving the team a great start. The Lions doubled the score in the 40th minute when Priya Nair dribbled past the goalkeeper and scored the second goal and her first of the season. Two minutes later Dakota Chan scored her second of the night giving the team a comfortable lead going into halftime. In the second half SJEB managed to pull one back in the 54th minute resulting in a 3-1 score in the opening game.

Head Coach Michel Vanderhart was very pleased with the game: "I am really happy with the team performance today. We analyzed SJEB last week and had a plan that we executed in perfection, with some outstanding individual performances. Our play in possession can still be improved but the overall effort was very good. It's exciting to win our first ever game and we look to build off here. I am looking forward to the rest of the season."

Selena Kaup also commented on the game: "I feel great about the first game, especially since we have only been together for two weeks. It's awesome to win and I hope we can continue to high press as we did today and I can't wait for the next game."

The team returns in action at home on Friday June 4 vs Old Dominion Cesena USA at 7pm.
